Chapter Sixteen

14th Spring , Year One

So it looks like I'm buying coal.

I gave it a couple of days to cool off and think about it, but with the crops coming up tomorrow, I'm out of time.

Besides, what is there to think about? I searched the first nine levels and didn't find so much as a speck of coal dust. If there is any in the fiendholm, it is on the tenth level or lower, and there is no way I'm going to try my luck with that Queen Bee if I can help it.

I've been trying not to think too hard about what happened. According to my Event Log, I died. Obviously, I got better, but that isn't something I can really rely on happening in the future.

It also cost me serious Zeni. I didn't notice the loss until I checked this morning, but I lost exactly ten percent of my total savings to 'Miscellaneous' shortly after I 'died' to the Bee. Marie wasn't sure precisely what the fee was, but I can put two and two together just fine. Better my GP than my HP, I suppose.

Thus, purchasing coal. I've got Victor coming over to drop off a supply this first thing this morning. After that, I need a bit of me time. Spend a few hours to center myself and figure out where I am.

Proverbially, of course. I already know I'm in a magical wonderland of Farming and Giant Bees.

Either way, at fifty Zeni a... I dunno, what is the unit of measurement for coal? A lump? At fifty Zeni a lump, this isn't going to cost me a lot in the short run, but I still do need to figure out a supply for the long-term.

Maybe I can get Victor to special order me a Rocket Launcher.

Or a big 'ol can of bug spray.
